Occupational Safety Support to NASA/Ames Research Center (ARC), Moffett Field, CA

PAI provides certified safety professionals to support ARC in safety and health activities, including performing routine safety and health surveys/inspections of all NASA facilities for compliance with OSHA, NFPA, Life Safety Code, Uniform Building Code, and the National Electric Code; providing safety information and expertise; developing/ implementing ergonomics and Code of Safe Practices awareness programs; performing preconstruction and construction safety inspections; and performing emergency response.  BACK TO MENU

 
Industrial Hygiene Support to NASA/ARC, Moffett Field, CA

PAI’s industrial hygiene support to ARC includes monitoring for hazardous and toxic chemicals including carcinogens; hazard communication; indoor air quality, ventilation, and respiratory protection; noise monitoring and hearing conservation and training; confined space entry; analytical services for sampling and monitoring of chemicals and microbiological materials, especially legionella, asbestos, and lead.  BACK TO MENU

 
Health Physics Support to NASA/ARC, Moffett Field, CA

PAI provides support in managing the Ionizing Radiation Safety Program in accordance with Chapter 7 of Ames Handbook 1700-1. Activities include inspections/surveys of laboratories to ensure compliance with NRC regulations; management of dosimetry, bioassay, and calibration programs; development and training programs for ionizing and non-ionizing radiation workers. Medical Services Support at NASA/ARC, Moffett Field, CA

The Health Unit at ARC is operated by PAI to provide emergency and work-related medical services for NASA employees, contractors, and visitors. On-site physical fitness programs and employee assistance services are also provided. PAI emphasizes the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and care of illness and injuries caused by the work environment. The Fitness Center provides several fitness classes, monthly races, and medical clearance registration, and has an average monthly participation of approximately 4500 persons.  BACK TO MENU

 
Safety and Health Oversight for the NASA ARC

PAI is responsible for the occupational safety, industrial hygiene, health physics, and medical programs covering the 6000+ employees at ARC. PAI inspects all ARC facilities for compliance with OSHA and all other safety regulations, tracks findings, and recommends corrective actions. Other duties include maintaining the Safety Hotline and the Hazard Reporting System as well as overseeing the Voluntary Protection Program.  BACK TO MENU

 
Safety and Health Oversight of DOE ORR Operations
At ORR production facilities, PAI provided industrial hygiene and industrial safety inspections and validation reviews that addressed indoor air quality, confined space entry, ventilation, and other safety concerns.  BACK TO MENU
 
ES&H Compliance Services for DOE/AL Transportation Safeguards Division (TSD)

PAI provided transportation safety, occurrence reporting, health physics, and other ES&H-related support services to TSD. PAI assisted in health physics, implementing the Hazard Communication Program, and occurrence reporting for the National Safeguards System.  BACK TO MENU

 
Industrial and Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection at the DOE Hanford Site

PAI provided surveillance of various facilities, laboratories, construction sites, and upgrade projects for compliance with OSHA and DOE requirements.  BACK TO MENU

 
Industrial Hygiene Appraisals at the Nevada Test Site (NTS)

PAI developed more than 60 technical assessment guideline documents and conducted more than 20 industrial hygiene appraisals and surveillances of maintenance shops, fabricating shops, waste handling, warehouses, construction, field operations, and laboratory operations.  BACK TO MENU

 
Construction Safety & Emergency Preparedness at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL)

PAI prepared more that 40 safety analysis documents and was responsible for OSHA inspections of LLNL facilities and site construction safety. PAI also supported emergency preparedness and assisted in the preparation of the DOE Emergency Readiness Assurance Plan and the Master Emergency Plan.  BACK TO MENU

 
Health and Safety Plans for NTS

PAI developed a sitewide generic health and safety plan to be implemented for all groundwater characterization and monitoring activities conducted at NTS, and provided mentoring to BN to frame the elements of an Electrical Safety Process Description.  BACK TO MENU

 
Construction Safety and Environmental Restoration at DOE ORR

PAI performed oversight of industrial hygiene, safety, and radiological controls during the repackaging of more than 38,000 drums of mixed waste. In addition to the waste, site hazards included heavy equipment and overhead crane operations, electrical hazards, PCB contamination, airborne radioactivity, and contaminated surfaces.  BACK TO MENU

 
ISMS Assistance to Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU)

PAI assisted in the implementation of ISMS at five ORAU facilities. In preparation for a DOE verification review, PAI performed walkthrough environment, safety, and health inspections; reviewed and revised existing policies and procedures; performed job hazard analyses; and recommended program improvements.  BACK TO MENU
