Patent No. 93,109,129.2 (China)

Coal is the major fuel for power generation in the world and is the major emission source of both global and local air pollutants, e.g., CO2, SO2, and particulates. Clean and efficient utilization of coal is a major undertaking in energy technology development.

The PAI Circulating Vibrated Bed (CVB) technology mixes pulverized coal particles with hot ashes discharged from a power plant furnace. Liquid fuel is evolved in the form of gases, which are condensed by heat exchangers. Noncon-densing gases are sent back to the furnace for burning.

Cold tests of the CVB system have been successfully per-formed in the PAI laboratory, and a hot test system has been designed.

       Potential Applications

  • Cogeneration of liquid fuel and electricity in coal-fired power plants
  • Efficient extraction of oil from oil shale and tar sand
