A dendrimer is a new kind of molecule
with multiple branched chains attached to the central
point. (Think of a cauliflower ball.) This configuration
provides a novel chemical building block that will lead to
new lines of products whose chemical and physical
parameters can be controlled.
PAI associates are developing methods
for (a) rapidly trapping guest molecules within the
dendrimers and (b) the controlled release of these guest
molecules at a later time.
The robust mechanical properties of
dendrimer molecules can also be used to dissipate energy.
Thus, efficient vibration suppressing and/or acoustic
damping material can be produced from dendrimers.
