Waste Facility Performance
Assessment Model

The WFPAM is a PC-based computer model designed to assist decision-makers in evaluating the effectiveness of their decisions regarding a waste facility or a contaminated site.  It can provide a "big picture" with a small amount of empirical input data, or a "detailed picture" with as many as thousands of input data.  It can also help determine what data must be collected.

Characteristics

Decision and Cost Module
 -- Describes and evaluates alternatives
Engineering Module
-- Uses finite-element technique to trace the spread of
    contamination in the ground
Monte Carlo Module
-- Determines the level of confidence of the results

       Potential Applications

Major Elements of a
Waste Disposal Facility

  • Waste facility design

  • Site evaluation and cleanup

  • Risk evaluation of cleanup alternatives
