Radiological Control

Examples:

Remediation/Construction Oversight of the Quarry Water Treatment Plant at the DOE Weldon Spring Site (WSS)

This plant was designed and constructed, and is operated to manage contaminated waters impounded at the Weldon Spring Quarry. A physicochemical treatment process is used to remove radionuclides, nitro-aromatics, and metals from surface water contained in the quarry. PAI oversaw design, construction, startup, and operations of this plant for DOE.  BACK TO MENU

Remediation Engineering Support Services to U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Oak Ridge Operations Office

PAI has provided extensive remediation engineering services to DOE at numerous sites throughout Tennessee. PAI has performed remedial investigations and feasibility studies; prepared remedial design work plans, engineering evaluations/cost analyses, and action memoranda; provided site radiation protection, safety and health, and geologic services; supervised data quality validation; and coordinated laboratory analysis.  BACK TO MENU

Remediation/Construction Oversight of the Site Water Treatment Plant Facilities for DOE/WSS

The plant consists of a 1.5-acre double-lined equalization basin with a capacity of 2 million gallons and four 1-acre, single-lined effluent ponds with a capacity of 1.3 million gallons each. The equalization basin stores contaminated water awaiting treatment, while the effluent ponds store treated water prior to its release to the Missouri River. PAI provided facility construction management oversight for DOE.  BACK TO MENU

Large Quonset Hut Remediation Project at Benton Harbor, Michigan

PAI provided site health physics services for decontaminating the quonset hut concrete floor and walls, and enclosed equipment. PAI was responsible for worker radiation protection safety involving the inhalation/ingestion of alpha radiation particles during site remediation activities, such as scabbling, shotblasting, vacuuming, and wiping the warehouse slab and walls. Our personnel performed frisking, air sampling and monitoring, regulatory interface, and site radcon oversight.  BACK TO MENU

Independent Cost Estimates for Defense Waste Processing Facility (DWPF) at DOE Savannah River Site

The DWPF was the largest glass vitrification facility under construction in the country and consisted of several separate projects, including (1) Auxiliary Pump Pit (APP) Building, (2) APP Bypass, (3) Ammonia Scrubber, and (4) Glass Storage Building. Senior PAI cost engineers performed cost analyses, material takeoffs, discrepancy resolution, labor efficiency/factor evaluation, markup evaluation, and final report preparation for these four projects.  BACK TO MENU

Woodlawn Landfill Extraction and Monitoring Wells at Fort Campbell, Kentucky

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers needed confirmatory data on the landfill’s RCRA permit. PAI supervised the drilling and installation of 2-in. and 4-in. extraction and monitoring wells. This included constructing the decontamination pad, monitoring the well drilling and grout pouring, decontaminating equipment, and disposing of the waste.  BACK TO MENU
